Voicemail:
- How do I set up my voicemail for the first time?
Call 321 from your mobile handset and then follow the recorded instructions to set up your voicemail. During this process you will be prompted to create a personalised voicemail recording, record you name as well as create a PIN. When you first access this service your PIN is the last four digits of your mobile number.
- How do I access my voicemail from my mobile handset?
The number to dial from your mobile handset to access voicemail is 321 from across Australia, regardless of what state you are in.
- Is it possible to access my voicemail remotely?
Yes. Just dial +61 (0) 41100 0321 from a touch tone phone or a different mobile. You will then be requested to enter your mobile number and to then enter your PIN code before being able to access your messages.
Divert Codes:
- If I am in a meeting and wish to divert all calls to another number is it possible to activate this service from my mobile handset?
Yes. You have the option to set up 4 different types of divert from your handset depending on when you need the diverts to kick in. Below are the divert codes:
67 Divert calls when “Busy” (on another call)
61 Divert calls when “No Answer” (i.e. didn’t hear mobile ring)
62 Divert calls when “Unreachable” (i.e. mobile turned off)
21 Divert “All calls” (i.e. when roaming overseas)
So to ACTIVATE a divert dial:
**(call divert code)*321#SEND
To DEACTIVATE dial:
## (call divert code)#SEND
- My mobile rings but then often cuts to voicemail before I can answer it. Is it possible to extend the length of time that it rings for before it diverts?
You can set your phone to ring for as little as 5 seconds or for as long as 30 seconds before you miss the call. You can opt for it to ring for 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 or 30 seconds. To choose the length of time you phone rings for, simply input the below sequence directly into your handset:
* * 61 * 321 * * (number of secs) # SEND

Staying in touch overseas with International Roaming
Roaming is the ability to take your Post Paid or Pre-paid service overseas to make and receive calls and SMS. With Optus and Telstra you can make and receive calls in more than 120 countries.
Your mobile number stays the same so that you know you can be contacted and charges are billed back to the account in Australian dollars.
It is important to note that not all charges are standard across carriers within a country. In one country alone you may use a number of different carriers depending on where in the particular country you are and therefore be charged different rates. At best, charges can only be worked out approximately as they are set by the International carrier and are subject to change. It is also worth noting that invoicing may take up to 6 months after the roaming calls have been made and you should not anticipate the roaming charges to appear on the next invoice.
In Australia we use a GSM 900/2100 network. Some countries, such as the USA, use a different frequency which means that you will need to have a tri-band phone in order to use their network. Upon switching on the mobile in a foreign destination, in around 30 seconds most phones will automatically select one of the roaming partner networks. Once connected, the name of the network will appear on the customer’s handset. The phone is then ready to use.
- So what steps should I take with my mobile if I am heading overseas?
- Contact your IF Telecom Account Manager on 1300 669 506 to ensure that international roaming has been enabled on your service.
- Check to make sure that your handset is compatible with the local network setup i.e. if you are travelling to the US you will need to have a tri-band phone.
- Check to find out what the approximate rates are for the country that you’re visiting so that you are aware of roughly how much it will cost to send/receive calls.
- To minimize costs while you’re away you may want to set up a divert for all incoming calls (refer to previous section on divert codes). That way you will only pay to retrieve your voicemails as opposed to being charged for the incoming call also. NOTE: THIS NEEDS TO BE DONE BEFORE LEAVING AUSTRALIA
- Find out what the relevant international dialing code is for the relevant country i.e. Australia (+61), UK (+44).
